Exciting slate of programs for 2008!
This year we'll be having a wide variety of guests and members presenting paddling topics of interest! We'll start the year with Ben Kvanli informing you about slalom racing, and continue on with presentations about Springs Fest, Hiadalgo River Festival, Week of Rivers, sea kayaking in Alaska, kayak fishing, competitive racing, adaptive paddling, and more! Visit the Meetings page to find out what's coming up!
New year of paddling
As we begin the new year, vision the places that you'd like to paddle, the skills that you'd like to learn, and the people that you'd like to meet. Help us make your vision become a reality by participating in the club. After all, the health of the club depends on the participation of its members! This year we'll be offering several trips, get-togethers, and trip-leader-training courses. We'll also continue to offer our low-cost rolling instruction at the local YMCA pool. Let's make this a great new year of paddling!
Want to find out what's going on? Visit the Trips/Events page.
Oh, and if you're interesting in working with others to keep the club running, we still have positions available on the Executive committee. Just contact Michelle Kvanli at 512-203-0093 for details.
Texas Paddling Trails
The Texas Parks and Wildlife website has great information about the Texas Paddling Trails. The Texas Paddling Trails is a new program to develop public inland and coastal paddling trails throughout the state and support these trails with maps, signage and other information. These trails provide well-mapped accessible day trips in a variety of settings and for all levels of paddling experience. Three inland trails and seven coastal trails exist. For more information, visit http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/paddlingtrails/.
Get your copy of Texas Whitewater: The DVD!
Visit the Texas Rivers Protection Association site to get your copy of the DVD! The long-awaited (and now acclaimed) "Texas Whitewater: The DVD" received its premier at the Hidalgo Falls River Festival, April 2006. Based on footage by Ken Wealty and sixteen other paddler/videographers, the film showcases 33 rivers and creeks in the state and features more than 50 Texas paddlers. Clips of classics such as Mexican Creek, the Blanco Narrows, Pedernales Falls, the Lower Guadalupe at high water, and Night Ops at San Marcos' Rio Vista complement segments on Austin favorites like Barton Creek and Dallas-Fort Worth runs such as the Clear Fork of the Trinity, and Denton, White Rock, and Rowlett Creeks. The soundtrack of the 35-minute video combines reggae, heavy metal, boogie woogie, industrial riffs, southern rock, and rhythm and blues to highlight scenes that will surprise a lot of paddlers. |
Membership choices
