Week of 07/04/08 North Carolina Week of Rivers. Several of us from the APC are planning to drive to the western hills of North Carolina to partake in the annual Carolina Canoe Club's Week of Rivers. During this event you can paddle your canoe or kayak on some of the southeast's best whitewater and flatwater lakes, take instruction at the fabulous Nantahala Outdoor Center, and mountain bike at the southeast's mecca, Tsali Recreational Area. The Alamo City Rivermen have a wonderful writeup on the event from last year. (Read it and drool!)

APC trips are conducted for the benefit of the members and guests of the Austin Paddling Club. Since about half our members are not members of the American Canoe Association (ACA), we will advertise all trips as “A group of paddlers” are going….” The reason for this is that Austin Paddling Club’s insurance is provided through ACA and non-ACA members would have to be charged a $5 fee to participate in “Official Club Trips.” The officers feel the fee does not promote participation in trips. The fee defeats the purpose of making trips available to everyone.

The coordinator of each trip reserves the right to limit the number of participants, and to refuse participation to anyone who does not possess the skill level required for the trip. Coordinators and officers of APC are volunteers and merely organize trips for the convenience of the participants. They do not make any warranties of safety. Paddling is good fun, but each participant is responsible for his or her own safety. Contact the trip leader to RSVP and to find out about any last-minute changes.

Some trips that are posted on the calendar are not sponsored by the APC, but may be of interest to our members. To find out about last-minute trips or events, subscribe to the electronic mailing list.
